An invitation from the Director

We invite you to join us in Hamilton at the Inaugural Conference of the National Centre for Farmer Health.
The overall concept of this conference is to ‘open the gates on farmer health’ and provide an innovative conference in the under-recognised area of health, well-being and safety of farm men and women, farm workers and their families. This conference is a specifically-designed program to encourage and develop relationships across agriculture, health sciences, medicine, public health, occupational health, veterinary science and health promotion, reflecting the true diversity of agribusiness.
This will be achieved by identifying a solid agenda to improve health outcomes for this community via key policy, research, planning, health and workforce domains across local, state and national sectors.
Anticipated outcomes include a famer health charter which will contribute to sustainable outcomes and the dissemination of conference proceedings.
The conference will strengthen and expand existing networks to assist in addressing the health and well-being issues that are confronting farming people and communities.
We see this dynamic conference as providing participants with a better – and broader – understanding of agricultural health issues.
This location was selected as it is not only home to the newly established National Centre for Farmer Health but it is also surrounded by agricultural enterprises (prime lamb, wool, cropping, timber, viticulture, dairy, beef).
I look forward to welcoming you in October and hearing your contributions to this inaugural Conference.
Susan Brumby
Clinical Associate Professor
Director, National Centre for Farmer Health
